With Valentine’s Day coming up, it was a no-brainer about what cookies I would make today. I love the flavors of cherry and chocolate together. To me, it ranks up there with Raspberry and Chocolate.

The Cherry Chocolate Valentine Cookies recipe calls for semisweet chocolate chips, but any type will work. I have used dark chocolate in the past and loved the combination of the dark chocolate and the sweet cherries.

Cherry Chocolate Chip Valentine Cookies are soft, fluffy, and packed full of cherries and chocolate chips. This Chocolate Chip Cookie is a delicious twist on an ordinary chocolate chip cookie.

Ingredients

  • 10 ounce jar maraschino cherries
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons cherry juice
  • 2 eggs eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Drain the jar of cherries, but make sure to reserve 3 tablespoons of the juice.

  2. Chop the cherries and set them aside.

  3. Cream butter and shortening, add sugars, and beat until fluffy.

  4. Add vanilla, cherry juice, and eggs. Mix well.

  5. Add flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix until combined.

  6. Add chopped cherries and chocolate chips, mix until combined.

  7. Drop onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

  8. Bake 8-10 minutes at 350, or until the edges begin to brown slightly. Enjoy!
