Welcome to dougbakes.com. My name is Doug, and I bake! I am a Hotel Account Sales Manager by day, and I operate an online vinyl album store with my supportive husband , Dale. It’s a busy life.
Over the past few years, we rescued three of the cutest Chihuahua’s that you have ever seen. All three were owner surrenders. I will never understand how anyone could let these adorable dogs go from their lives. They are our family now. We live in Indiana where winters can be brutal, which means our dogs literally live under blankets six months of the year.
Like most people, I have a special connection to food. I was raised in the small farm town of Cloverdale Indiana (GO Clovers!) , food was a huge part of our way of life. Every holiday, visit, or when neighbors helped us put hay bales in the barn , food was as a focal point. At those events, even at that early age, I was mostly interested in the dessert table. I knew the level of skill and love that each person baked into every cake or pie, and that intrigued me.
I left that small farm town of tractors and hay barns many years ago and landed in the big city. People tend to buy cakes from bakeries rather than bake them from scratch. I guess that’s fine for most, but my mission with this blog is to return to the kitchen and whip up some of the things I enjoyed as a boy and share them with you.
Let’s bring back the dessert table, the bake sale, and even the cake walk, If you haven’t heard of a cake-walk, you should google it! 😊
